Prominent Leaders from Past Conferences

Since May 1994, more than 1,000 leaders of tutoring and mentoring programs have attended the Tutor/Mentor Conferences.  Pictured below are some of the more  prominent leaders who have been in attendance.


Senator Barack Obama attended the May 1999 Conference and presented the Thomas A. Demetrio Lend-A-Hand Award to Horizons for Youth.

Mayor Richard Daley of Chicago attended the May 1997 Conference, along with General John Borland (RET) who was President of the United Way/Crusade of Mercy.

The November 1995 Conference was held at the Chicago Fire Department Academy. Paul Vallas, CEO of Chicago Public Schools (second from right) was the keynote speaker.
